Stratagem 1. The extension. Stretching the adversary's statement beyond its natural limits, interpreting it in the most general way possible, taking it in the broadest possible sense, and exaggerating it. Instead, reduce your own to the narrowest possible sense. Well, the more general a statement is, the more exposed it is to attack. The removal consists of clearly establishing the "punctus" (debated point) or the status "controversiae" (way in which the controversy is presented).
Example:
A: The English are the first dramatic nation.
B: It is known that in music, and therefore in opera, they have achieved nothing.
A: Music is not understood in the dramatic, which refers only to tragedy and comedy.
B, who knows the dramatic genres perfectly, tries to generalise in order to achieve that the opera, lacking in the English scene, is understood as something dramatic and will win the dialectic.

Estratagema 1. La extensión. Estirar la afirmación del adversario más allá de sus límites naturales, interpretarla de la manera más general posible, tomarla en el sentido más amplio posible y exagerarla. En cambio, reducir la propia al sentido más limitado posible. Pues, cuanto más general resulta una afirmación, más expuesta está a los ataques. El quite consiste en establecer claramente el punctus (punto debatido) o el status controversiae (manera como se presenta la controversia).
Ejemplo:
A: Los ingleses son la primera nación dramática.
B: Es sabido que en la música, y por tanto en la ópera, no han logrado nada.
A: La música no está comprendida en lo dramático, que se refiere únicamente a la tragedia y a la comedia.
B, que sabe perfectamente los géneros dramáticos, intenta generalizar para de esta manera conseguir que la ópera, carente en el panorama inglés, se entienda como algo dramático y ganar la dialéctica.
